Though this album was recorded in London, The Triffids seem to yearn intensely and defiantly for their distant homeland. Their third record, Born Sandy Devotional, is a moving and beautiful release that combines at times languid, at times anthemic guitar rock with /5(18).

David McComb had high ambitions for The Triffid’s second full length album, Born Sandy Devotional. Up until now we’ve been making records of collections of accumulated songs – this will instead be songs written FOR an LP record with a theme NOT a hotch potch of historically compiled songs.

Nov 25,  · Born Sandy Devotional was the album where it all came together for The Triffids. Vocalist/guitarist David McComb was at his songwriting peak. The playing and production is superb. Wide Open Road is god-like. It somehow manages to be simultaneously sombre and infectious, introspective and expansive, evocative and funky.
