Most MTB bikes use 9- or 12 speed cassettes although more budget models may use 8- or less commonly, 7-speed. A typical gear spread for an MTB cassette (the amount of teeth on the smallest and largest sprockets) would be t.

cassette shells basically come in two types, welded together and screwed together. the screwed together shells will have from 1 to 5 screws holding them together. the welded ones have no screws. both halves are joined using a process called sonic welding which makes repair a little difficult but not impossible. welded shell tapes must be cracked open. screwed together tapes .

Dec 15,  · Somewhere I still have a cassette with hz on one side and 8k on the other, plus a strobe disk visible through the window on the hz side. You set the capstan speed by measuring the hz on playback. The 8k is for head alignment. The strobe disk is driven by the capstan. Quite often the playback speed would be adjusted to be correct.

Oct 28,  · If we were given the option of an 8 speed cassette i for one would still be on it. Or even 7 speed. A is a wonderful spread for a mtb, but i find myself changing too many gears with a 9 speed. The whole tight spacing thing really has no business in the woods. It's a road thing. On a positive note, there's great deals on 9 speed.
